Channel Guidelines
A channel lets one person or organisation share posts with as many followers as they like. Because a channel can reach thousands of people, it has rules of its own, on top of the Terms. These guidelines apply to everything a channel posts: words, photos, videos, voice messages, polls, and its name, photo and description.
Channels are public
Chats on Fariin are end-to-end encrypted. Channel posts are not. A channel is made to be read by people its admins have never met, and a public one can be read by anyone. Fariin can see a channel's posts, and our moderators read them when a channel is reported. Post only what you are happy for the world to see.
What a channel may not post
- Scams and fraud. Fake giveaways, investment schemes that promise easy money, requests for payment for things that do not exist, and phishing links.
- Pretending to be someone else. A channel may not use another person's, business's or official body's name or photo to look like theirs. Fan and news channels must make clear they are not the real person or organisation.
- Threats, violence and hate. Calls for violence against anyone, and attacks on people because of their clan, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sex or disability.
- Sexual content involving children. Never, in any form. We remove the channel, delete the account and report it to the authorities.
- Sexual content and graphic violence. Nudity, pornography and gore have no place in channels.
- Dangerous false information. Made-up news meant to cause panic, or false claims about health, elections or emergencies that could put people at risk.
- Other people's work. Films, music, books and posts you do not have the right to share. Owners can report copied content to us.
- Illegal goods and services. Drugs, weapons, stolen goods, fake documents.
- Spam. Posting the same thing over and over, or using the channel to push followers into chats they did not ask for.
What we do
When a channel is reported we look at it. Depending on what we find, we may:
- put a Scam or Fake label on it, which everyone sees next to its name;
- stop new people from following it;
- suspend it for a time, so nobody can read or post in it;
- remove it for good, and in serious cases close the owner's account.
A channel that breaks the rules again gets a stronger step each time.
If you think we got it wrong
Signed in to the account that owns the channel, send us a message through the contact form with the channel's name or link, and tell us why. A person reviews every appeal.
Reporting a channel
Open the channel, tap its name, and choose Report Channel. Nobody in the channel is told who reported it. See Report a channel.
